Our journey begins in Dimini, one of Europe’s most important Neolithic settlements. Imagine walking among ring-shaped enclosures, where the region’s first inhabitants made history—perhaps this was the legendary Iolkos, the starting point of the Argonautic expedition! Next, we’ll head to the Athanasakeion Archaeological Museum of Volos, one of the oldest in Greece, where you’ll discover treasures from the Neolithic era through the Roman period, including unique inscribed funerary stelae.
This afternoon, Volos beckons! We’ll wander through the historic Old Town, the heart of the city, where the ancient Volos Castle and the Roman baths stand side by side with old machining shops that have been converted into modern multi-purpose venues. And of course, you can’t leave Volos without experiencing the ultimate ambiance of the famous tsipouro taverns, where flavor meets tradition in a symphony of aromas and tastes!
Pelion: In the Footsteps of the Centaurs and “Mouzouris”!
Our tour continues to the picturesque villages of Pelion, with their lush natural beauty, where the centaur Chiron taught the arts and sciences to heroes and demigods such as Asclepius, Jason, and Achilles! In Milies, the historic village of Anthimos Gazis, you’ll feel the magic of the past. We will visit the historic station of the legendary “Smudgy” train that once connected Pelion with Volos, and we will admire the Church of the Holy Archangels with its incredible acoustics.
Our final stop is the beautiful village of Vyzitsa, a historic settlement that looks like it has sprung from a fairy tale.
